80′s Makeup Series: LadyCrowX

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Hello People!!  *waves to the new followers especially* I am bringing to you the very first post in my new 80′s Makeup series.  For those of you that don’t know about this series, it is brand new!  The 80′s (and early 90′s) are one of my absolute favorite eras for music, fashion, movies, etc.  Everything was literally just COLORFUL and fun!!  So, I figured what better way to bring some life to my blog than to see how other people interpret 80′s and early 90′s?  If you would like to participate (and your  post can be ANYTHING.  Nails, hair, fashion, makeup, etc), please email me at mika_chan@aijuswhanakno.com  Include any information that you would like for me to include in your post, as well as a list of any products used and photos to post.   For those of you that don’t have blogs, this could be an awesome way for you to get your feet wet, and help you decide if you would like to start a blog of your own.

Wanna see Lady Crow’s look?  Come on in!

Here’s what I did…hopefully it represents the 80′s :) I was feeling kind of sick tonight “headache, sore throat, ect” and I totally forgot to do mascara rofl….although I figured it kind of keeps the lashes out of the way of the vibrant colors! So maybe it’s not too bad lol. Thanks for letting me participate in such a fun topic!

For information I’m not sure what to say…never been a guest blogger before :D  I guess just information like my blog link http://ladycrowx.blogspot.com/ , I love makeup because it allows me a chance to express myself and if I can blog about it and maybe give someone else some ideas/or tips then I find that pretty awesome. :)

Fyrinnae Sugar Skulls!

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010
I am breaking my usual way of doing things. I am posting a look using new eyeshadows before I actually post the swatches of my most recent Fyrinnae haul.  I know I just ordered from them, but I completely forgot to order my Velvet-Gel Silica Primer.  Seriously, that stuff is great.
(Jump behind the cut to see the rest!)

Anyways, I really really liked these new colors.  Sugar Skulls is one of Fyrinnae’s newest colors to be released on the site.  (By the way, follow Fyrinnae’s chemist on twitter.  Tons of sneak peaks and fun going on over there.  And no, he didn’t put me up to saying that.  I just thought you should know ^_^  )  Back to the subject, this color was originally created for Grey of Le Gothique.   One day she sent out a tweet asking if anyone knew of a pink eyeshadow with an orange duochrome.  TAA-DAA, enter the lovely chemist.  He whipped this up for her and then completely surprised her with it.  I think that’s pretty awesome.  Anyways I’m rambling.  Here’s the look.

P.S.  I haven’t tried it yet, but I think that Sugar Skulls would probably make a pretty blush too. At least for me!

Mac Pigments FOTD: Golden Rose with Melon

Monday, July 26th, 2010
Hello :)  I’ve been thinking about ways I could spice up my blog and network a little more.  I was listening to an old song from the early 90′s, and an idea struck me!  I want to have an on-going theme for the 80′s and very early 90′s.  I would like to have guest bloggers (whether you have a blog or not) to create looks that THEY feel fit this theme.  I hope to see loooots of colorful looks :)  (You know, like the crazy Denise Huxtable streaks on one side of the face, lol). This doesn’t have to be restricted to makeup.  Hair, nails, and outfits are perfectly acceptable as well!  If you are interested, please shoot an email over to mika_chan@aijuswhanakno.com.  Also, if you have an idea that you think fits the theme, but is not one of my listed categories, please send me an email!  I am very open to any ideas.  I hope a lot of you guys decide to post :)
Anyways, the FOTD.  I did this look using some Mac pigment samples I ordered a few months ago.  I was wearing a FREAKING BRIGHT ASS very colorful shirt, and I didn’t want to have too much going on.  And like a dumbnut, my mascara ended up on my lid AGAIN.  I swear, I’m too clumsy.
Can I note that I H A T E D this lipstick?  Not the color, it was very pretty.  It was some random Revlon lipstick that had a gloss on the other end.  My lips looked fine before I applied the color.  After the color was applied, it made my lips tacky, and made it look super super dry.  Skin was coming off  and it just looked awful :(  I ended up using Lip Lustres from Fyrinnae, after I took these pictures.

Seriously, that’s what I did.  I’d been tempted with the idea to do so for quite a while.  Then when someone suggested it to me, I thought “Why the heck not?”  If it doesn’t workout, one could always just try it again.  I ended up quite happy with what my hands chose.  All of these were colors that I probably have only ever swatched.  Here’s the look.  (For some reason the last two pictures washed me out a little.  Oh well.)

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010
Thanks guys for sticking around!  As I promised, posting will resume regularly now.  I’m sorry that I had to put things on hold.  Here’s a look I did, featuring as much Evil Shades as I could fit in!

The look didn’t turn out how I intended, and at first I was very displeased by it.  I actually meant to have an aqua type color as my lid color, and just greens in the crease and brow.  I dipped my brush into the wrong pot though, and had to improvise.  However, I actually ended up liking this look a lot.  I also received a lot of compliments for some reason.  Actually, I tend to receive a lot of compliments anyways when I’m wearing Evil Shades.  Here’s more of the look.

Also, a quick sidenote.  For those that are interested in my photography and want to follow it, I have a Tumblr.  I didn’t really want to bog down this blog with non-MU stuff, but I still want to share my endeavors with the world.  If you care to take a look, here’s the link.  Http://aijuswhanakno.tumblr.com

Glamour Doll Eyes Announcement

Monday, July 19th, 2010

Helloooo, out there!  Welcome to all you new followers, too!  Don’t be shy, come on in!

I’m really sorry there haven’t been many posts lately.  I didn’t work that much over the last few weeks, and all of last week was a vacation for me.  Now that I’m done with vacation, post frequency shall resume.  This post is more of a sales announcement though.  Please read on, because this is rather exciting!

Customer Appreciation Sale!
Its about time for another Glamour Doll ”Customer Appreciation” sale!! If you have been following and using GD for a while, you know that we have a customer appreciation sale about 2 times a year. Ever since we lowered our prices in Dec/Jan, we haven’t had one so its about time to offer you an awesome deal!
Glamour Doll “started” in November of 2008. Our website was officially launched in January of 2009 and since then, we have successfully process and shipped almost 4,000 orders. Without your continued support, we wouldn’t be where we are today!
There have been many learning experiences with processing, shipping and blending and we are happy that you have been here to help us through these. As a thank you, we are offering 50% off full jars, starting on July 30th (Friday) and ending August 10th (Tuesday). That gives you 12 full days to decide what colors you want to pick up!
Use code “lovegde” and it will give you 50% off FULL JARS only. This includes full jars of eye shadow, twi-shadows and eye lights. Your purchase total must be $48 and after the discount, it would be $24 (8 full jars). If you are looking into getting a few samples and a few full jars, as long as your cart total is $48 before the coupon, you may use the code, however, only the full jars will be discounted!
** Please be aware that I am a one woman show. This sale may add some extra time onto my processing time as I may get a large amount of orders. I appreciate your patience! If you need your shadows on or before a specific date, please e-mail me before placing your order !**
Free Glamour Gloss!?

As part of the “customer appreciation” sale, we are offering a free Glamour Gloss with any order of $42 or more (after discounts). Just let us know which gloss you would like free at check out, DO NOT add it to your cart or you will be charged. The gloss you will receive is a full sized gloss! Limit one per order! This deal is only good as long as the Customer Appreciation sale is valid.
PLEASE NOTE: These glosses do have color to them. Normal application offers a light sheer color payoff but they can also be built up for an intense color payoff.

Just a quick glamourdolleyes.com tip: If you’re an avid mineral make up company collector, watch out for the *’s in a listing. This means that a color is NOT a custom blend to GDE and you may have a duplicate from another company! We want you to get every bang for your buck, so here is a quick list of some customer favorites (that are unique to GDE): Dear MomPistol PistolPremonitionThe Perfect CurePhyrraAll NighterBrown Eyed GirlVeteranSex AppealOdditySkin of a Killer & Just Dance!

I know I’ll be buying!

Circle lenses FTW!

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

So I finally got around to trying out my circle lenses.  I LOVE them!!!  I bought “pop gray”, but they actually have a little bit of a blue effect on me.  I definitely still wanna get the “pop honey” ones that I originally went looking for.  What do you guys think?  (Sorry for the lack of MU, it’s my day off ^_^ )

Fyrinnae haulage, and a small update on my son.

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Helloooo, out there!  *taps mic* Is this thing on?  Oh, there you are!  Hello readers, new and old :)  I hope you guys all had a FABULOUS weekend.  I did, and you want to know why?  My men are home :)  I really missed my husband and my son,  and now that they’re home things can finally return somewhat to normal.

For those of you who don’t know, and that is many of you, my son now has a “diagnosis”.  He has Colpocephaly.   There really is not a lot of information on it, but to the best that I can understand, it is a birth defect.  Something happens between 2-6 mths pregnant that does not allow the brain to form correctly.  I hate to say it, but basically my son’s brain has not formed to be the same size as a normal brain.  Now, a lot of things that I have found on it say that kids that have this have very SMALL heads.  This is not the case with my son, his head is actually on the larger side of the spectrum.  I am hoping that will work towards his favor.  Colpocephaly can be very mild, or very very severe.  The doctor has said that my son can have a normal life, and that is what I now live for.   Unfortunately, it also means that our time in Okinawa, Japan is over.  He also needs an eye surgery, and he needs therapy 2-3 times a week to ensure that he is learning and developing properly.  That is a need that just can’t be met with the small medical resources that we have available here to the military.   We will be living somewhere in San Diego.  I have faith, and I am going to do everything that I can for my son to have a normal and happy, healthy life.
Ok, now for the FUN stuff!!! Who doesn’t love to see a little Fyrinnae haulage?
Reincarnation – red enhanced with tiny reflective sparkles (not gritty glitter!). The sparkles are varying hues of blue and purple, changing to pink/orange in some lighting, making this a multi-dimensional shade. The varying hues of sparkle make it more wearable for different skintones than a regular “warm” or “cool” red.
Tangerine-Vanilla scent (smells like a creamsicle, but not heavy).

Shangri-La – , azalea purple-pink. Much brighter than Hysteric.
Strawberry Cotton Candy scent

Okinawa Beauty – No description for this yet, as it has not yet been added to the site.  Something like a chocolate brick red.  Its a good mix of red and brown.  A little dark on me, but it looks beautiful when I sheer it out!  Named for one of their favorite bands (I can’t find the tweet saying which one) and…..ME!  WHOO-HOO!  When they told me what it was named for, I was having a poopy wedding anniversary day, and they totally made it better!

Row 1:
Lights of Hong Kong – N/A
Species 8472 – sandy taupe, slightly shimmering with just a touch of soft red sparkles. Subtle overall, but catch the light like tiny flickering flames. December 2009.
Lights of Tokyo – N/A
Forbidden Lover – Multi-hued lilac covered in lighter pink & lavender shimmer and sparkle.
Evocation – , not gold. Gentle, slightly shimmery taupe with a highlight that changes from a pale blue-green to soft rose/coral. December 2009.
Liquor is Quicker – , glittery silver-white sprinkled with pale green sparkles
Leshii – lilac with copper and turquoise shimmer highlights.
Twinkle Twinkle Little Bat – the “Mad Tea Party” collection of half-past March 2009.
A mauve-sort of shade, packed with pink sparkle, shimmer, and and a hint of blue sparkle for good measure. Somewhat pink, somewhat lavender, and very sparkly.

Row 2:
Biker Chic – blue sparkles on a black base can create a fun glittery look, or apply wet for foil-like glam. Photos do this shade no justice at all. (“chic”, not “chick”)
Freya – shade is a glowing purple-burgundy shimmer on black. It has an opaque soft black base when applied ofver Pixie Epoxy or wet, but apply dry and you can get a more muted appearance. Makes a great liner.
The Randy Ferret - deep smokey forest green with a touch of lighter green & teal shimmer, and subtle purple sparkles throughout. Base hues are similar to Tabloid and Japan, and coordinates with both. May 2009
Princess of Darkness – shade is a rich berry-magenta with a slight satin finish. Coordinates well with Tapir. Halloween 2009
Love Potion – Potion is a vivid pink (leans warm) with a highlight of green and aqua shimmer. Move it close to the light and you get a striking, almost metallic pink-coral. New in 2/2009.
Sluagh – (pronounced “sloo-ah”) Dark violet with a bright copper shimmer.  This shade always photographs like a bruise! It’s much prettier in person, with an actual purple-hued base, not brown or reddish.
Parental Advisory – shimmery royal purple. Almost two-toned because it has a blue base, yet the shimmer takes on a slightly iridescent reddish hue.
Not lip-safe.
Aztec Gold – metallic coppery gold over a green base. Not lip-safe.

I am ABSOLUTELY wondering what took me so long to order Love Potion, Parental Advisory, Sluagh, The Randy Ferret, and Twinkle Twinkle Little Bat.  Oh, and Aztec Gold.  They are all so GORGEOUS!!!!
I really happened to like this bronzer, and I’m happy that this bronzer works for me.  I’ve noticed that a lot of these indie company’s idea of “medium” or “dark” means that you just barely have color to your skin.   Case in point:  every DARK foundation color that I tried from Aromaleigh was still too light for my skin.  I fall into the medium/tan range, so um yea…….  Fortunately the boys at Fyrrinnae NEVER let me down.  I also love that this bronzer has grey tones to it.  I use bronzer as a contouring powder, and grey naturally shows up in shadows.   I think I need to order a full size.  That’s a good thing…because I forgot to order my primer!  Oops.
Well, see anything you guys like?
